Setting the tone (Carolina defeats Seattle)

After beginning the season with 13 straight wins and finishing the regular season at 15-1, the team from Carolina had plenty of reasons to be excited going into the playoffs. Already ahead 7-0 with 11:49 left in the 1st quarter, the defense went to work. With the crowd making their presence felt, the defense responded by shutting down the run game and forcing a pass play on second down deep in their own territory. As the quarterback dropped back, the captain of the defense read his eyes and intercepted the pass intended for the wide receiver, getting the defensive takeaway and running it back 14 yards for the touchdown.

This play set the tone for the rest of the game. They stormed to an amazing 31-0 halftime lead over the defending NFC champions. While their opponent would craft an impressive comeback effort in the second half, the deficit was too great to make up. The team from Carolina was heading to the conference championship game once again. Playmaker: Mike D.
