Tuck Rule

This play is one of the most controversial in franchise and league history. The away team’s all-star cornerback sacked the home team’s young quarterback, appearing to cause a fumble that was recovered by the away team; which, had it been a fumble would most likely have secured the victory for the away team. But upon review it was determined that while the QB had seemed to stop his passing motion and was trying to “tuck” the ball into his body, it was nonetheless an incomplete pass, and not a fumble. The call on the field was overturned and the ball given back to the home team, which shortly thereafter drove to within field goal range, made the kick to tie the game, and eventually won the game in overtime, 16-13. A lucky call for the home team, they would win the next two games, securing their first league championship. Playmaker: Mike D.
