Greatest Game Ever Played (Colts 23, Giants 17)

This professional football championship game ended in a tie in regulation, forcing the first sudden death championship game in league history. It is remembered by many a knowledgeable fan as "The Greatest Game Ever Played." There was phenomenal back-and-forth determination from both teams; a record-setting 12-reception day by Colt Raymond Barry; great controversy over a failed New York 4th down conversion near the end of regulation, and a touchdown by Baltimore with seconds left to tie the game. Many fans thought the home team would dominate the game played at Yankee Stadium, but the away team found a way to pull off the win in overtime. This 1-yard touchdown run by Alan Ameche secured victory for the Colts. Playmaker: Mike D.
