Iron Man (Ripken)
The streak began quite unceremoniously on May 30, 1982. More than 13 years later, and covering 2,131 games, this baseball legend surpassed another, the “Iron Horse” as keeper of the longest streak of consecutive games played. No one thought that Gehrig's streak would ever be broken. But Ripkin did it, even hitting homers in game 2,130 and 2,131 for good measure. At the end of this game, the fans would not leave, cheering him non-stop for 22 minutes and 15 seconds - a blink of an eye in comparison perhaps, but well deserved, indeed.
