Goal Line Stand for the Ages (Butler)

The team from Seattle was trailing 28-24, but had all the momentum in this biggest of games while driving to the opponent’s 1-yard line. With one of the league’s best running backs as an option, they instead called a controversial pass play on 2nd down. The wide receivers were stacked in hopes of running a pick on the right side of the field to draw defensive backs away, but the cornerback closest to the offense blocked a wide receiver at the line of scrimmage, preventing him from reaching the secondary back. At the time, it looked like a receiver was open at the one-yard line as the QB threw him the ball, but before the ball arrived the defensive back lurking in the end zone correctly – perfectly – read the play, making the most meaningful interception in pro football history, on its grandest stage.
