Clockgate Game Winner (Smoker to Ducket TD)

After spiking the ball to stop the clock at 1-second in the game and down 24-20 against its visiting in-state arch rival, the team from East Lansing was left with 4th & goal from the opponent’s 2-yard line. Out of the shotgun formation with 5 receivers split wide, the quarterback dropped back, faded to his right and lobbed a ball across his body and off his back right foot to his unattended running back in the middle of the end zone
for the game-winning score. The game would forever be remembered as ‘Clockgate’ as players, announcers and fans of the visiting team believed time had expired prior to the spike on 3rd down. Too bad. Game over.
